Abstract

Abstract

This article reviews the function of zakat as a medium for empowering the people's economy. The method used in this research is library research, namely by referring to primary and secondary sources in the form of books, journals, scientific papers, regarding the history of sharia law in the archipelago. The approach used in this research is a structuralism approach, namely an approach that examines the structure of texts, in this case texts that represent texts regarding sharia economics and its challenges in the era of globalization. The results of this research are that the Islamic consumption pattern is the achievement of maximum utility, not only considering consumption for the benefit of the world but also considering consumption for the benefit of the afterlife. If people's consumption patterns are Islamic, then less useful and excessive consumption can be avoided. Apart from that, the creation of consumer unit behavior in such a way will facilitate the development of sharia banking, because both the user and the provider of sharia banking services will pay attention to the interests of the afterlife which is one of the determining factors for the success of sharia banking development.
